Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament, Ion-Marcel Colacu, discussed three “major energy projects” with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Among them is a contract for the purchase of one billion cubic meters of gas, part of which is intended for Moldova, which is experiencing an energy crisis. Colaku told about this today, February 27, on his page on the social network.
“Romania can become an important regional player in Europe’s energy security. Today we discussed three major energy projects with President Ilham Aliyev. The first is a contract for the purchase of one billion cubic meters of gas, which will be valid for a year, starting in April. We offered to help Moldova through this contract, and President Aliyev supported our proposal,”

The second project, according to Colaku, concerns the transportation of liquefied gas, namely the cooperation between Romgaz and Socar for the construction of two terminals in the Black Sea.
Recall that in October last year in the Romanian capital, a memorandum was signed between Romgaz and the Azerbaijani company Socar on joint investments in a facility for the production of liquefied natural gas in the Black Sea. Bucharest, together with Baku, is looking for solutions to deliver Azerbaijani gas through Turkey and Bulgaria to Romania and further to other beneficiary countries, one of which is the Republic of Moldova.▼ READ THE CONTINUATION OF THE NEWS ▼
“The third project is aimed at developing the infrastructure of the Black Sea submarine electric cable for the transmission of green energy through Romania from the Caspian Sea to Europe”,

As EADaily reported , in early January, the Moldovan government approved the necessary regulations for the uninterrupted operation of gas transport in reverse mode (backhaul). With the approval of these rules, new opportunities have been created for transporting gas to the Republic of Moldova, as well as to Ukraine, including through the trans-Balkan gas pipeline.
Speaker of the Moldovan parliament, concurrently the leader of the country’s ruling presidential party “Action and Solidarity” Igor Grosu recently confirmed that the republic is very much counting on gas from Azerbaijan. In November 2022, Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ali Huseynli , while on an official visit to Chisinau, assured that the Republic of Moldova would be among the countries to which Baku would give priority when making decisions on natural gas supplies. In turn, the government of the Republic of Moldova confirmed its readiness to purchase 300 million cubic meters of blue fuel.
