“This is a Discredit”: Deputy Aryev Says She Was Not Under Drugs in an Accident

Kyiv City Council deputy Yarina Aryeva pleads guilty to the accident, but denies allegations of drug use and considers them “planned defamation.”

Direct speech: “I didn’t use any drugs! The examination made after the accident did not find anything and they didn’t even take away my driver’s license. Suddenly, after six months, an examination comes up with traces of drugs that I didn’t use. Six months later!

In the last two months, she actively participated in actions against the UOC near the Lavra. The hierarchs of the Moscow Patriarchate have a great influence on law enforcement agencies, and this is clearly a planned discredit.”

Details: Aryeva said that she did not have time to react, admitted her guilt and said that now “negotiations with representatives of the injured woman are being completed.”

Direct speech: “The accident happened during a blackout six months ago, on the evening of November 27. The injured woman suddenly went out onto the road without reflective elements, I did not have time to react.

It’s good that I was driving at the allowed speed, which was shown by the examination. My family immediately began to help this woman with treatment, which has all the evidence. I’m sorry, and as the driver, I admit my fault. And we are now completing negotiations on this case with representatives of the injured woman.

Once again, I am very sorry and I feel guilty about this accident and have cooperated with the investigation all the time and will fulfill my procedural duties. But I categorically deny that I used drugs.”

Background:

  • Law enforcers reported suspicion to the deputy of the city council of committing an accident with serious consequences while intoxicated.
  • The traffic accident occurred on November 27, 2022 in the Obolonsky district of the capital. According to the materials of the investigation, the suspect, while driving a Volkswagen Polo, was in a state of drug intoxication. Approaching an unregulated pedestrian crossing, the woman was unable to assess the change in traffic conditions and hit a woman pedestrian, causing her serious bodily harm.
  • The victim received fractures of the clavicle and jaw with traumatic extraction of teeth, fractures of the limbs, a closed craniocerebral injury and other injuries.
