The UN Security Council, as a body that should guarantee global security, no longer works. Because it is time to get rid of the stowaways.
This was stated by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to his Twitter message .
“The words that the world has wanted to hear for so long. The UN Secretary General is calling for a reform of the UN Security Council. The body that should guarantee global security no longer works,” he said.
Podolyak stressed that the UN Security Council is now actually a daily mockery of common sense and international law.
“Because a country that unleashed a large-scale war in the 21st century and kills tens of thousands of people cannot puff out its cheeks to sit with civilized people, talk about fighting mosquitoes and veto decisions. It’s time to get rid of the passengers who jumped into the car without a ticket,” – he declared.
Calls for reform of the UN Security Council
UN Secretary General António Guterres admitted that the UN Security Council needs to be reformed to meet the realities of this time.
The UN Security Council came under fire in April when Russia assumed rotating leadership of the 15-member body despite 141 countries condemning its aggression against Ukraine.
At the same time, back in December last year, Ukraine launched a campaign to deprive Russia of the status of a permanent member of the Security Council and expel it from the UN on the basis that Russia did not go through the procedure for joining the UN and simply usurped the powers of the disappeared USSR.
The UN Security Council was created in 1945. Its main purpose is the responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
